River Forest Public Library:
Connecting Our Community
River Forest Public Library (RFPL) lives at the heart and soul of our community. The Library connects the community in many important ways from encouraging literacy and a love of reading in infants and children to supporting adults and teens with information and enrichment as they explore ideas, learn skills, seek jobs, build relationships, and escape isolation.
We are fortunate to have an excellent Library. More than 75% of River Forest residents hold RFPL library cards and many more people utilize its services. The Library receives less than $0.02 of every property tax dollar—operating on a significantly smaller budget than comparable libraries in our area. Charitable donations to the RFPL Foundation enhance the connections to the community the Library offers today and in the future. Thanks to generous donors, the Foundation has funded Children’s Room renovations, strategic initiatives, special programs, and maintenance of the Anne T. Smedinghoff Memorial Garden.

“We give to the Foundation to celebrate our family's love of reading and to honor our children's experience at the River Forest Library. The library's children's programming was one of our first River Forest experiences after moving to the area and immediately helped us to feel part of the community. We are so appreciative of the library's creative programming that helps encourage our kids to read and explore topics that interest them."
