Read what your neighbors have said about River Forest Public Library (RFPL) and RFPL Foundation:
"The library is a magical place for me. I remember visiting the library when I was 7 or 8 and I thought that I could read every book in the library. I know now that goal was and is beyond me, but the magic is still there. The thrill of touching that opening page and then turning each and every succeeding page and discovering the magic that is on each page never grows old. To discover the depths of imagination an author has and the ability to use words to weave plots that are woven out of everyday life never ceases to amaze me and delight me. The beauty of the library is that it owns all this magic and will let me borrow any book whenever I want! I am grateful to Benjamin Franklin for starting such a phenomenal institution and for all those who have helped perpetuate the love of reading."

"I recently spent five weeks in London. During this time, I was never without something to read or a movie to watch, thanks to my RF library card and the digital opportunities. My friend in London was amazed at the choices I had, she told me that their libraries are mostly closed or operating with very limited hours, sometimes even staffed by volunteers. So, many thanks for all that is offered by our wonderful library! I am glad to be home, able to visit in person, and stop to read a magazine near one of the fireplaces."

"This summer, we are taking our kids on their first trip to Disney World--and it's a surprise! As an over-preparer, I started ordering numerous travel/Disney books from the library system as the trip drew closer. Unfortunately, my independent 10-year-old is also a voracious book-orderer, and he adopted the habit of stopping by the library every afternoon to check the shelf for any family holds. It was a daily race for me to clear the shelf of suspicious titles before he could see them. I shared my comical predicament with the wonderful circulation staff, who assisted by expediting my holds when I stopped by early in the day. Finally, a crisis approached where several incriminating books were arriving but I was unavailable to visit the library. I was resigned to having my cover blown early, but was delighted to receive a call from Cathy mid-afternoon, letting me know that she had noticed some of my 'secret holds' come through and was keeping them at the desk, out of sight of prying eyes. She saved the day! Our secret is still safe, thanks to the RFPL staff's stellar service--and hitherto unsuspected espionage skills".

"While dividing plantings in my yard this summer, I forgot where the internet cable was buried. You can imagine the reaction from my working-from-home spouse when the internet was cut during an important online business meeting. Contacting the cable company was my first line of recourse and when they said they could be out in a few hours I breathed a sigh of relief. Within a few minutes they sent me a text to inform me that due to a more pressing emergency they could not be expected until 3 days later. I knew I had to come up with a solution and that’s when I turned to the River Forest Library! I remembered they checked out Hot Spots, portable devices that provide internet access for free. I quickly mobilized and had our online devices connected to the Hot Spot I borrowed within the hour. So not only can you access free internet at public libraries, but in River Forest, you can have the library provide you with free internet remotely! A great service indeed! "

"River Forest Public Library Foundation,
My mother always told me, 'If you can read, you can do anything.' Thank you for continued high quality books and service to our community. Through reading I've learned to sew, cook, and play the piano.
Your #1 Super Reader,"

“We give to the Foundation to celebrate our family's love of reading and to honor our children's experience at the River Forest Library. The library's children's programming was one of our first River Forest experiences after moving to the area and immediately helped us to feel part of the community. We are so appreciative of the library's creative programming that helps encourage our kids to read and explore topics that interest them."

“River Forest Public Library offers many anodynes to help residents cope with a noisy, stumbling, conflicted, and sometimes wonderful society -- books, tapes, lectures, insightful presentations, videos, educational events, and more -- all in a comfortable, family friendly setting. Like a valuable gem, RFPL is an indispensable community resource deserving every penny donated to keep it shining brightly.”
